Essie Honiball presently writes books and gives guidance to those
who wish to go on the fruit diet. She has been working for many years to make
the fruit diet scientifically recognised.
She
worked has a lecturer in physical and health education.
By taking medicine
for many years due to tuberculosis, her body was deteriorating at
an alarming speed. In
1958, she was very sick and hospital seemed to be the only solution for her.
Her
desperation gave her the necessary impulse to start eating fruit to overcome
sickness.
Essie
found out about the healing of fruit by Cornelius Valkenburg de Villiers-Dreyer.
His work was based on human nutrition. He gave her all the support and guidance
during her sickness and change to the fruit diet.
Before
she went on the fruit cure, Essie had no vitality, troublesome pains,
nausea, skin rashes, insomnia and loss of appetite.
She
began the fruit diet by doing a three days fast and then gradually introduced
three fruits a day. She craved for other food has her body had been accustomed
for so many years.Enviously
she used to watch people in cafés enjoying what was denied to her. But she kept
herself to the diet.
She
learnt the value of oxygen, and saw how much strength it enabled her to
develop. She had to do breathing exercises each day from morning until
night.
She
was able to carry on working although she was very weak.
During
the cure she experienced some difficult situations, she became weaker and
her mass dropped. She was very thin and fainted regularly. After a month Essie was still very weak, but the worst was over and her
unsightly skin rash and sinus pains had disappeared. That
meant progress and gave her courage to carry on.
In
the course of time the reactions diminished and occurred less frequently,
until they disappeared after a few years. According to Cornellius her bloodstream
had been purged of the substances that had polluted it and
caused her illness. Her body started functioning on the new fuel and building
material with positive results.
Later she married Cornellius.
He withdraw her from normal life and in her isolation she was transformed. Not
only did she acquire a new body but also a new outlook on life. Away from
societys complexities, she found direction in life and made a new start.
After sometime her sleeping pattern and her appetite returned to
normal. Her mass started increasing. She could walk and climb
stairs.
When she returned to her
family and friends a year
later, they could hardly believe their eyes. The person who had greeted them a
year before had been a living wreck who had been deeply depressed.
Now she was in excellent health, full of vitality, suntanned,
full of the joys of life and looked ten years younger!
Conellius passed away in 1961. Essie had promised him that she would keep
up the experiment until it attracted scientific interest. Ten years later the fruit
diet was scientifically studied, with results that have been
published.
During those years she had to experience many reactions due to her eating
habits that were not approved scientifically and socially. She also
had to deal with temptation, for ones body still craves the old food to which
it was formerly accustomed. Essie isolated herself and this brought her psychosomatic
disturbances. She developed pains and nausea through fear of social
challenges.
Sometime later, Prof. B.J. Meyer took her under the wing of science. This
ended her loneliness, frustration and tension. She was surprised to find that
the social climate had changed completely and that it was not strange to live
on fruit and raw foods.
She discovered other things. She could stop again once she had ordinary
food. She had no more cravings for her old diet. Her body had completely
accepted the fruit diet. She loved the taste and the simplicity of
fruit. Essie also became more flexible in order to live socially.
Today
she still lives exclusively on fruit. Her present husband is also on her diet
and wherever they go, fruit is laid on the table for them.
